The Dartmouth farthing hammered coin
As a metal detectorist you never know what may come out of the ground. In some areas where you have done your research you find little or nothing. On others areas where you expect to find very little and you are chancing your arm a little, you end up finding something interesting. The coin below is one such find that was out of the blue but none the less welcome. It is a Dartmouth Farthing of about 1640. This was found on a small field near the coast in Devon in England while metal detecting with another detectorist. It was the first time that I had metal detected on this particular field and found little else of note.
